New benefit-eligible employees must actively enroll through the People First portal within 60 days of their hire date. Coverage is not automatic; if you miss this window, you must wait until the annual Open Enrollment period unless you experience a qualifying life event.

The State offers Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans (administered by Florida Blue) and Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans. PPOs allow out-of-network flexibility, while HMOs require you to stay within a specific network and use a primary care physician (PCP).

Changes can only be made during Open Enrollment or within 60 days of a Qualifying Status Change (QSC) like marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child.

You now have direct access to your digital insurance cards—medical, dental, and vision—through the myBenefits app or through Medefy inside People First. This makes it much easier to download, email, or print insurance cards.
If you have any trouble using the app or accessing your insurance card you will need to contact your insurance carrier directly (e.g., Florida Blue, Aetna, United Health, Vision, and Dental)

The FRS Pension Plan guarantees a set monthly benefit based on your salary and years of service. The FRS Investment Plan places contributions into a self-directed account, where your retirement balance depends on market performance.
